Volaris Group Acquires Biodiv-Wind

TORONTO, Aug. 31, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Volaris Group (Volaris) today announced the acquisition of Biodiv-Wind SAS. Based in France, Biodiv-Wind is the market leader in real-time bird and bat detection systems for onshore wind farms. Its solutions, both hardware and software, are essential to regulatory compliance.

Biodiv-Wind’s technology dates back to 2008, with the filing of its first patent: a system to detect birds approaching wind turbines and prevent collisions through acoustic deterrence or turbine shutdown. Detection-and-shutdown systems first appeared on European turbines shortly before 2010 and have since been progressively written into French prefectorial operating permits.

Biodiv-Wind began commercial operations in 2015, installing its first real-time avifauna detection and deterrence prototype. It was awarded Pass French Tech Laureate status in 2019, raised funding from regional investors in 2020, launched on the Brazilian market in 2022, and in 2024 joined the I-NOV program, funded by BPI France and ADEME, which supports high-potential innovation projects for the French economy. Today, Biodiv-Wind is the market leader in France with more than 700 systems installed, and continues to develop its AI-powered detection models and its 3D technology, trained on several years of proprietary annotated data.

Biodiv-Wind provides an integrated hardware-and-software system for real-time avifauna detection, deterrence and turbine regulation by combining cameras, radars and sensors with software connected to turbine SCADA systems and an in-house layer of ornithologist-validated reporting. The company’s customers are primarily wind-farm operators and large energy players whose environmental permits require certified detection systems, particularly on sites in or near migratory corridors and high-regulatory zones.
