Þessi heimild er í samræmi við heimild skuldara fasteignaveðbréfa til að greiða aukaafborganir af skuldabréfum sínum eða að endurgreiða skuldina að fullu fyrir gjalddaga. Ákvæði þessa efnis hafa verið í lögum um húsnæðismál allt frá setningu laga nr. 75/1989, sem komu húsbréfakerfinu á fót.Á þessum grundvelli hefur Íbúðalánasjóður látið fara fram aukaútdrátt.
